I realise that my online presence has been lacking the past few weeks - it's a combination of things, really. I've been feeling really down on life, a lot of things stressing me out (uni, lack of work, etc) and I'm trying to turn that around. I'm already feeling quite a bit happier, but my general mood goes up and down so frequently that it really can't be trusted!

Anyway, I've been missing the blog terribly, and I want to get back into regular outfit posting - and I think I've found a solution to motivate myself! I'm a new fan of kendieveryday, a gorgeous blogger who created a challenge for herself a month ago, to create outfits from only 30 pieces of clothing for 30 days. She's been doing such a beautiful job that I want to try it out myself - not only do I think that it will motivate me to enjoy getting dressed again, but hopefully I will also learn to appreciate what is already in my closet!

I'm making my owns rules a bit with the challenge (why not, really) and I've decided that the 30 items includes only clothing and shoes (pictured below). I've included 10 additional accessories (scarves, belts, etc) and I think this is what I will struggle with the most. I don't know how to live without my excessive scarf collection!

Shoes: cheap white tennis shoes, thrifted camel boots, Sportsgirl wedges, Target camel flats, Wittner black heels.

The challenge starts tomorrow (on the 30th, it must be good luck!) and I'm really looking forward to it. Wish me luck!!

Oh, and P.S - I just found out that I got a job as an assistant manager at a thrift store nearby. Um, who knew you could actually get paid to work there??? So excited!!

I've been extremely slack with outfit posting - I just realised that I haven't posted one since I got my head shaved! Before I did it I decided I would start dressing a bit more girly to make sure people knew what sex I was (I'm a bit lacking in the chest area), but it hasn't altered my style - I love androgyny after all!

By the way, it's still hot here so I'm going NUTS. I hate the heat. I want cold. We are definitely moving after I've finished studying.

This dress has a little story - last week, I got stuck in a country town called Meadows about an hour out of Adelaide (long story for another day!). I went into the petrol station to find out about when a bus into the city would come, and they said there were NO BUSES in town. I didn't have enough money for a taxi to the next town over (Mt Barker) so I was pretty much preparing to hitch hike it when the owner of the petrol station said he was leaving to go to there in half an hour! I'm not usually one to get into cars with strangers but I had a good vibe so I just did it. So we got to Mt Barker and I found out that the bus didn't come for an hour so started wandering around aimlessly...and came across the best Goodwill ever! I picked up this dress, a perfect cream blazer and a pair of men's pants. Anyway, the moral of my story is that if I hadn't gotten stuck then I wouldn't have this pretty white lace dress which I love!

This is the 100th post on amuse-a-muse! It's not my 100th blog post ever, as I've had a few different blogs in the past, but this is the one I've felt most attached to. I feel as though I could look through my photographs and read my words in 50 years time, and gauge my feelings and thoughts accurately.

A special something to commemorate...if you're an avid reader of Vanity Fair, you'll know that each issue features a celebrity Proust Questionnaire on the back page. The namesake, Marcel Proust, did not create the survey, but he was an avid believer that a person must know and understand themselves before they can know and understand others. He took the survey twice as a young man, and found it to be revealing of one's true nature. So here's a bit about me, and I would love to know your responses also!

Honesty, love and sharing with my partner is happiness. Laughing with my family is happiness. Breathing the warmth of my kitten in bed is happiness. Cooking for loved ones is happiness. Reading words I already know and love is happiness. Cold water is happiness. Giving presents is happiness. Listening to rain fall on a tin roof is happiness.

2. What is your greatest fear?

Loss, I think. Losing the people around me; losing stability. Losing my passion.

Paranoia. I find it hard to distinguish between a creative mind, and plain stupidity.

4. What is the trait you most deplore in others?

Prejudice and judgement - sexism, racism, homophobia. Derogatory behaviour of any kind.

My partner, Alex, for her generosity, anti-materialistic nature, ambition, and her ability to see the best in people.

I have a few - I'm terrible with luxuries. Cigarettes, magazines, and clothes.

I'm generally a cross between stressed / hopeful / ignorant (in the past few months, anyway).

Forbearance. If only because I have no tolerance or patience for intolerance.

9. On what occasion do you lie?

When I think it makes things easier. I hate it, but it's true.

10. What do you dislike most about your appearance?

I hate my nose. I think it's an odd shape, and rather big.

11. Which living person do you most despise?

I wouldn't say I despise anyone. I don't think I know people well enough to hate.

Humility.

Grace.

Probably "I love you". I don't think that's a bad thing!

Alexandra. She is my perfect fit - my life.

I don't remember the last time I felt full-to-the-brim with joy. I find it hard to remember before that, too. I am generally a happy person, but I can't pinpoint a time. Perhaps it hasn't happened yet.

17. Which talent would you most like to have?

I would love to be able to meditate.

18. If you could change one thing about yourself, what would it be?

I would improve my ability to stick to a plan.

19. What do you consider your greatest achievement?

Coming out. I have never been so brave.

I would come back in the past.

Just a couple of pictures from the World's Greatest Shave!

I know it's such a superficial thing - worrying about hair, I mean - but I honestly think that this is one of the most important things I've ever done, in terms of self-realization. When I first signed up to shave my head, all I was thinking about was the cause of raising money for The Leukemia Foundation. This part of it has been brilliant, we have received so much support and have raised over $12,000 (the most in our state!). What I didn't think about was the effect it would have on me, and how I felt about myself and those with cancer. We shave our heads not only to raise money, but to show support and empathy for what people are plagued with when ill. Although there is no way to understand the pain of the disease or treatment, we can experience what they go through when part of their identity, their hair, is taken away without warning or permission. It feels different; others look at you differently. In the past two days I've been stared at by everyone I pass, and I've even had a Sinead O'Connor song yelled at me when I was just walking down the street. This didn't embarrass or hurt me - it made me think about how I would feel if I did have cancer. If I had to live with judgement like this, in addition to a life-threatening illness.

I think it tells a lot about human nature.

And how do I feel? I feel empowered. I have more self-esteem than I have had in a long time. I've had so many compliments, and it's truly lovely. I would encourage anyone to take the chance - it's not forever, and you can help out an important organisation in a very big way.

Wunderkind is one of my favourite collections every season, and I wasn't disappointed at all.

I think this is just such a smart way to use animal print. And I love the subtle fringing.

I showed my outdoorsy, fashion-senseless partner the Dries Van Noten collection and she loved it. Shock horror!

Personally I usually love Dries for the colours and prints (hence my undying love for Maggie Gyllenhaal's Oscars dress), but the simplicity was quite beautiful.

And finally, another constant favourite of mine - Gary Graham. This collection is divine.

So, only 3 sleeps until I am a bald lady! There was an article in the newspaper about us today, I will scan it when I get the chance so that I can show you lovelies! Very exciting stuff.

I've been thinking about what I'm going to do about my head when there is no hair on it. I'm not even a little bit embarrassed about it, so I don't have a problem with just leaving it - the only problem is that the weather has changed big time and now it's cold! I don't want my poor head to freeze. I think I'll go with headscarves most of the time, but I've been looking at hat possibilities as well. And when it's warm enough, I'll just rock some massive earrings I think!

Today I needed comfort more than anything else - I spent the day doing the little bits and pieces I needed to do before heading back to University tomorrow. I love the first day back - I find it exciting to sit in new classrooms with new pens and paper, to think about the things I need to learn in the next six months. It's a fresh start, and it's exactly what I need right now. I've been so stressed out (finances, mostly, so I won't bore you!), and I honestly try so hard to be positive but sometimes it's so hard not to feel like life is going at a completely different pace. The beginning of the semester is something new and interesting to focus on, and I'm equally excited that today it is officially AUTUMN. The cold is here, hurrah!

This spread from In Style Jan '09 has been haunting me for the last year - it really stuck with me, but I couldn't find my hard copy or any scans of it up until now! I don't know any of Keri Russell's work (I was never a Felicity fan, and I honestly don't know what else she's been in!), but she looks so beautiful in this shoot. The styling is what really stuck with me - these are the perfect hues and layers for Autumn, and as we come into cooler weather soon this is exactly the inspiration I need! The accessories are perfectly quirky. I'm in love.

My apologies everyone, for being such a slack blogger! I've been working every day, and unfortunately my beautiful auntie passed away last week so I have been absorbed in my family. We were prepared, as she had been battling cancer for quite a while, but it has still been a hard time.

This is what I wore to her funeral (her favourite colour was purple).

I just discovered a la mode on etsy - a cute little store, featuring fun, geeky accessories and bits and pieces made from 'industrial elements', such as seat belts! I'm totally diggin' the woven envelope clutch with copper handle, and the geek necklace (pictured below).

a la mode is also part of Handmade Helps Haiti, which means that 50% of sales are donated to Doctors Without Borders until 14th February. Do you need any other reason to spend up?!

In other news, I've committed to decrease my consumer footprint this year.

This means no new clothes, accessories, or things for my house!

There are a couple of reasons for my decision. I can't hide the fact that I spend WAY too much money on new things that I really don't need. Alex & I are saving for a two-month Asia trip at the beginning of next year, and our income can't support the luxuries we bestow upon ourselves at the moment (okay, I'm the main culprit, I know!). My other reasons are simple - I've known for a long time that endless clothing purchases are unnecessary, and definitely not sustainable. I've been thrifting for some time, and I have a fair portion of recycled clothing in my closet, but it is definitely time to change my outlook on shopping. I know that I need to think about the things that I want, because most items I crave can be easily found in op-shops or via eBay. This is not to say that I'm going to spend up big when I go thrifting - believe me, I've learnt the difference between buying something because it's $1, and buying something I'm actually going to wear! I won't go into it in great detail because I don't want to bore you, but environmental sustainability is something I study with concern, and I want to practice what I preach a bit more.

I don't want to be too strict on myself, because I know I'm far from perfect, so I'm going to start small and take it month by month. My only exception is shoes - I don't find many secondhand shoes comfortable or practical, so these will still be bought new. I will also allow a winter coat or two when the cold season comes around, as these are things I do need. My real weaknesses are magazines and books - and as you can see in my sidebar, I have enough books to last a month or so! I'm going to limit myself to two magazines per month, and only buying books if there's something I dearly want to read. I find most of my books at the Salvo's anyway, so this shouldn't be a problem!

Anyway, wish me luck - I will definitely keep you updated on my progress!

What did everyone think of the Golden Globes this year? I think there could have been some more stand-out dresses - the Globes are usually an opportunity for everyone to wear something a bit quirkier, before classing up for the Oscars in March. The cast of Glee were particularly disappointing - I would have liked to see them a little more fun and a little less, well, boring. However, I did have a couple of favourites for the night:

Jennifer Morrison in Puerto Rican designer Luis Antonio - I know a lot of people will hate this (and trust me, I'm not even going to TALK about her hair and makeup), but I like it. The shape is flattering, and the colour isn't too bad for a nude.

Jennifer Aniston in Valentino - I was disappointed at first to see that she had gone back to her traditional black, but this Valentino is a far cry from her days of black strapless dresses! I don't think she's ever looked better - she just gets better with age.

Diane Kruger in Christian Lacroix - you can always count on Diane to wear something special, and this is not different. This dress is exquisite, and it's fantastic to see someone wearing Lacriox on the red carpet!

Marion Cotillard in Christian Dior - she looks incredible 24/7. The end.

Drew Barrymore in Atelier Versace - People are hating this all over the internet already, but I like it. I even love the bulges. And I'm glad to see Drew has chilled out a bit on the big hair - she looks incredible.

Ashley Olsen in Erdem - This is a cheating a bit as it's the afterparty, but she just looks so cute! Great to see her repping Erdem, and accessorizing with those SATC Manolos!

This year I am participating in the World's Greatest Shave! As some of you may know if you've been reading for a while, my youngest brother Michael (14) has been battling Hodgkin's Lymphoma for over a year now. It's a rollercoaster ride for my family, full of ups (positive news, time spent laughing together) and downs (treatment, treatment, treatment!). As a cause so close to my heart, I decided to bite the bullet, and on the weekend 11th-13th March I will be shaving my head!

I urge you to support anyone you know who is participating this year, as it is a very brave thing for all involved, and any amount of money can make a difference, even just a few dollars.

The February issue of Marie Claire is being debated in the media, as Jennifer Hawkins (former Miss Universe) has bared all' on the cover; appearing completely naked and sans-retouching. Editor of Marie Claire, Jackie Frank, has applauded Jen for using the opportunity to promote healthy attitudes towards body image in Australian women.

The issue being raised is that although the images show small blemishes on Hawkins' body, she is not a positive role model for body image. Basically, because she's an underwear model, her body isn't comparable to the rest of us, and we're all going to see this and fall further into the depths of our endless negative self-esteem. The magazine has defended themselves by claiming that this is incredibly 'brave' and brings deserved attention to the body image debate.

I don't necessarily agree with either of these points. The one thing I do think is ridiculous is pointing at this woman and saying that because she has a dimpled thigh, a wrinkle on her waist and uneven skin tones makes her imperfect just like the rest of us. Is it just me, or does this not provoke women to go home and look in the mirror and pick at themselves in the very same way? In an email featured in The Australian, one woman said, "If anything is going to have me running to the toilet with my finger down my throat, it's a picture of Jennifer Hawkins naked". Great job guys, really getting that positive message out there. I don't like Jackie Frank at the best of times, but I think it's a bit hypocritical to expect to sell magazines by gushing about how it's a huge move to be un-airbrushed when you won't even feature a size 10+ woman in a fashion spread.

On the other hand, the magazine IS a business, and she is just doing her job - I'd love to see the sales figures for this one, between all the free publicity and male attention it will undoubtedly receive! The issue may not wholeheartedly be promoting diversity, but it does raise awareness to the fact that even the owner of one of the most perfect bodies on the planet has some hang-ups about their body. Let's face it, we all do! Personally, I'm not the healthiest or most comfortable weight at the moment. Since moving in with my partner (1.5 years ago), I've put on 10-15kgs, and I'm very aware of it. However, I know that not everyone's perfect, and no one is staring at the tiny stretch marks and dimples on my body except me.

What's your take on this? Very overrated, but I don't think we're hearing the end of it anytime soon!

I thought I'd jump on the bandwagon and admit some of my new year's resolutions! I think it's such a healthy thing to start each year with some small goals to work towards, direction is never a bad thing.

1. Spend more time with my family. This is really important to me - we have been going through such a hard time for over a year now, and because I don't live with them it's become too easy to go without visiting for a week or more at a time. I love seeing my parents & brothers, so there's no reason not to!

2. Try to eat healthier, and spend less money on takeout food. I've said this for years (don't we all?) but I've started to realise that it's a pointless goal unless you truly know why you need to. I would like to for a couple of reasons: so that I can get my body back to the way it was a year ago, and to make an effort to control the foul moods I have as a result of my lack of energy. I also love cooking, which helps!

3. Save up money to buy a bicycle. I want to ride to university - I have wanted to since I started 2 years ago, I've only got two years left to fulfill this! There's nothing like cycling to feel free and calm.

4. Save money for our big Asia trip this time next year! I've done the math, it's possible. I'm excited :)

5. Concentrate on finishing what I start. This applies to so many things in my life. I'll volunteer for something, and then give it up. I'll start an essay, and then ask for an extension when I don't need one. I'll start to clean the house, and then get bored. I put it down to laziness - it has to stop!

6. Style-wise, dress for myself instead of others. It isn't that I dress to impress everyone else, it's that I don't wear what I want to for fear of standing out in the crowd! I don't like to stereotype, but Australians have a very relaxed sense of style. I would feel out of place wearing heels during the day if I wasn't going to work, but I'm going to try to ignore this and wear what I'M comfortable in!

7. Regulate sleeping patterns. When I don't have plans for the day, I generally wake from 2pm - 2am. Um, unhealthy much? It makes me more tired too. I'm just sick of it!

I'm also contemplating quitting smoking...I want to, and the price is rising too which makes it extra enticing. I don't want to put pressure on myself though. It's a cop-out, I know. We'll see!

Just a few things I've done this week...

Finished work for the holidays - I have a glorious month-long break!
Watched one of my favourite movies, Bus Stop.
Found the perfect wallet (I am yet to purchase, though!)
Accidentally completed my Christmas shopping - by accidentally, I mean that I somehow picked everything up without doing any intentional shopping! I framed some photos for my parents, and also got my mum a calendar and my dad some manly beauty products; I bought a tee for one of my brothers, and a magazine subscription for the other! Done! Lover and I aren't doing presents this year...my new camera is a birthday/xmas pressie :)
Written a proof for an article for our first university magazine next year.
Had a meeting with my brother's oncologist about the possibility of my donating bone marrow if he needs it - this eased my mind a lot.

This week I will be cleaning, cooking and wrapping presents (my favourite part!).

1. Biker chic

This trend is not going anywhere any time soon! We've learnt the ways of a soft leather jacket and gold studs, and their simple power to make us feel simultaneously tough and stylish. The catwalk loves biker chic, and so do we!

3. Style Icon - Emma Watson

The little British girl from Harry Potter has been transformed into a style icon for our age. With the assistance of a Burberry ambassadorship, Emma was stepping out in 2009 looking like a natural in designer rags. I also think this helped her get away from that horribly plain boy she was with, and moved on to a Spanish rock god :)

4. Celebaby style

All of a sudden, we're obsessed with the fashion sense of the sons and daughters of our favourite celebrities, in a way that it has never been before. This week, Suri's heels are a scandal almost as big as Tiger Woods! Here are some of the kiddies we can't get anough of:

6. Twilighter fashion

Personally, I think the only one of them with any style is Ashley Green. Nikki Reed makes odd choices, and Kristen has been sporting that whack haircut all year (I know it's not her fault, but I'm definitely not convinced that she's now stylish because she's been wearing designer threads lately!). The boys are fairly boring too. But we can't open a mag without seeing one of them this year, so here's some of the good, bad and ugly:

This past weekend was the opening of Adelaide's LGBTIQ Festival, Feast. I'm a volunteer for the festival this year, but I had the day off to enjoy the celebrations! The primary purpose of my daily outfit posting on here (and also Flickr) is to become more creative within the means of my wardrobe, as it is something I thoroughly enjoy. A lot of the time I have more fun getting ready in the morning than actually living out the day! Similarly to a lot of people (I imagine), I still find myself in a rut - you'll notice I don't post anything for a few days, which generally means I'm slumming it around the house! However, I truly believe that when I've taken care of my appearance, I'm more inclined to produce something with my day. It may sound shallow, but I'm just being honest!

So, I have decided to trial a new plan. The inspiration for this has come from a number of bloggers doing similar things (thanks guys!). I intend to sit down at the beginning of each week and devise some sort of theme for each day - whether it be a colour, specific piece of clothing I've been wanting to wear more, or something broader. I've seen a couple of people doing this for an entire month, but I'm going to try to tailor it to the weather forecast as well (as it is so up-and-down here at the moment!).

I'm also hoping that this will gradually allow me to do a major wardrobe clean out of the clothing that I REALLY DON'T WEAR. Every time I clean it, I throw out so much but I'm still left with over half that never sees the light of day! I would ultimately like to have a smaller selection of items that I love and wear frequently, rather than a closet full of junk.

What better day to start than hump day? Wish me luck!

I was a massive bookworm as a little'un - I read my first novel aged 6, and never looked back.

In recent years I've found it exceedingly hard to find the time to read consistently, and I really want to. There's nothing like the inspiration and thought-provocation of reading a good book. It's not that I haven't been reading at all, I've just been storming through books in a day every week or so, without truly enjoying it.

So, I've decided to re-start my lifelong habit by committing to one new book a week. Admittedly, it may be more this week - my first only took two days!

I picked up Sellevision by Augusten Burroughs in a thrift store not long ago, as I've been meaning to read his work on a (long-ago) recommendation from my darling Cassaundra.

I thought it was a clever and witty representation of the chosen area of the media and advertising industry - very easy to read and greatly enjoyable, considering this isn't my usual style of novel. I especially appreciated the humourous take on homosexual vs. devout Christian - I thought it to symbolize that in the end, we all fall down, regardless of our differences. An interesting take on equality.

My (not so) little brother, Alex, graduates from high school tomorrow!

He's a character, as all 17-year-old boys are.

But I'm so proud to call him my brother - he's loyal, considerate, funny, and exceptionally good at any sport he turns his hand to.

With everything that's going on my with our younger brother Michael's health, I know how hard it is for him to be at home alone with our parents. It's hard to be the only support when I don't live at home, and it's obvious that he's mature and supportive beyond his years.

So, congratulations little bro! I love you very much, and I'll always be here for you.

As most bloggers do, I am constantly adding to my inspiration folder from a myriad of sources, including my favourite street style blogs. This season, I started to notice one gorgeous creature who kept grabbing my attention.

I absolutely adore the style of Yasmin Sewell. Her hair is incredible! I think it's the first style I've found that I could actually ask a hairdresser to replicate - it seems to be the same texture as my hair. I'm probably dreaming! Anyway, back to her style. I love the relaxed, androgynous vibe she exudes. I love the simplicity of her outfits, which focus on fabulous tailoring and luxurious-looking fabrics. I love the fact that she doesn't wear a lot of jewellery - I'm not a big jewellery person myself, and it's so refreshing! And last but not least - I love that she's Australian!

So, I've just finished reading 'The Lovely Bones', by Alice Sebold.

I really undecided whether I enjoyed it or not - it only took a few hours to get through, so I guess I was somewhat taken in by it. Although I wanted to know what was going to happen, I found myself dissatisfied at the end. I find it hard to enjoy books when I don't like any of the characters, and that's what happened in this case. Susie doesn't have enough of a personality - what's with not really caring that she died? She never shows any emotion. Abigail is irresponsible, Jack is a bit pathetic, Lindsey annoys me for a reason that I can't really place. Ruth takes things too far. I do like Grandma Lynn, though. She's got character.

All in all, I thought it was well written but confusing at times, and a bit lacking in finality. I'll be interested to see how the movie is - I didn't even know it was being made into one until this evening!

Had a fairly average day, sat around watching the football grand final - no SA team was in, so it wasn't particularly exciting!

Tonight I took my friend Kristy to see my favourite band The Whitlams. I've seen them a number of times, and they always blow me away. There's some amazing talent in Australia. Here's a photo I took of the lead singer (and the heart of the band), Tim Freedman:

A few days ago we had some beautiful sunny weather - I'm so glad I don't get hayfever!

I have to say, I'm not overly impressed so far! I was really looking forward to seeing what Preen came up with, and was extremely disappointed - Justin Thornton and Thea Bregazzi, there is more to fashion than little floaty/bandage dresses! Same to you, Jason Wu - I would enjoy it more if your models were naked and I could concentrate on the delicious shoes clothing their feet. Nice work with the fuschia/mustard, though.

I did, however, enjoy the street-smart androgyny at Rag & Bone. In particular I love the khaki, scrunched down socks and lace-ups!

Looking forward to - nice weather, and possibly attending the Royal Adelaide Show (we weren't going to, but might pop in one night for a toffee apple and a wander!)

Starting - kickboxing fitness lessons down the street!!

Cooking - vegetarian all week, yum.

Watching - True Blood, S1 (I know, we're behind. Silly us.)

Wishing for - Fleetwood Mac tickets in Melbourne! (I would totally go straight for Lindsey Buckingham)

Last night, Alex & I & some friends attended the big game here in Adelaide.

and...

WE WON!

I don't know what AFL (footy) in Australia is comparable to internationally,

but we tend to go fairly insane.
Particularly when our hometown team is playing to win the premiership

in just a few short weeks.
